MELBOURNE, Feb 22 AAP - The Howard government's moves to simplify Business Activity
Statements (BAS) had come too late, Opposition Leader Kim Beazley said today.

"I think you've got to understand this, and this is what this government struggles
with - it's the mess of their own creation," Mr Beazley told reporters.

Mr Beazley said before wholesale sales tax was replaced by the goods and services tax,
the government "collected $19 billion for $19 billion from 80,000 taxation outlets".
