Fed: ALP concerned over G-G's approach to sex abuse claims
The federal opposition says Governor-General PETER HOLLINGWORTH needs to provide clearanswers today on claims of a cover up of sexual abuse within the Anglican church.
Dr HOLLINGWORTH is due to release a statement today answering allegations he coveredup claims of sexual abuse within his diocese during his time as Archbishop of Brisbane.
Labor's child care spokeswoman NICOLA ROXON says it's imperative Dr HOLLINGWORTH makesclear his position.
Opposition Leader SIMON CREAN says Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD must scrutinise Dr HOLLINGWORTH'sstatement and decide if he still has confidence in the governor-general.
ALP backbencher DUNCAN KERR says Dr HOLLINGWORTH has found himself in a similar positionto Mr HOWARD, who's being challenged over his knowledge regarding the children overboardaffair.
He says Australians are very troubled about their public life at the moment.
